Description :

Scientists are getting close to creating wireless systems that are 100 times faster than existing networks. The new telecommunication method uses terahertz radiation which allows much higher carrier frequencies than current microwave technology.

The system being tested uses a technology called a "leaky wave antenna". This consists of two metal plates in parallel to form a waveguide that guides the terahertz waves.

One downside to this technology is that it has a much shorter range than microwaves. So, it could only be used in a home or office environment. Experts predict the technology is 10 to 15 years away from seeing commercial use.
