Austin, Texas has been selected as the next location to test the self-driving car of Google, Lexus. The project started in 2009 to save lives. Every year, 33,000 people in the Unites Stated dies due to the car accidents. It is equivalent of 77 falling out of the sky five days a week.
Dr. Kara Kockelman, a professor of transportation in Engineering, UT has been researching for self-driving cars for years looking at the benefits, cost, and the affect on the society.
She said that google self-driving car had safety engineer on board and he could control immediately and let somebody in the driver seat.
The Google car research in Austin is very detail-oriented. It may be used in the downtown first.
