Ten years ago today, YouTube published its first video. Olly Mann reveals ten lessons we can learn from the site's first decade.
Lesson 1: Ignore the concerns of your employer. - Managing what the employers say on social media
Lesson 2: Exploit your children. - Presenting your children on YouTube may exploit children
Lesson 3: Don't appear as you sound. - It may not as the same as people's expectation
Lesson 4: Sing badly. - It can be viral
Lesson 5: Remix someone else's content. - it will be popular
Lesson 6: All news footage is fair game
Lesson 7: Build a teen audience by baffling everyone else
Lesson 8: Propose to your girlfriend
Lesson 9: Start a meme (a cultural item in the form of
an image, video, phrase, etc., that is spread via the
Internet and often altered in a creative or humorous way).
Lesson 10: Join in with a meme.
In summary, YouTube has effectively reposition itself as a place to discover professional content and also to make someone become famous overnight.
