Description :

usman-harun-369Singaporean media reported on February 19, 2014 that the Singaporean government was angered by Indonesia's decision to name a corvette after Osman Haji Mohamed Ali and Harun Said. These two marines were convicted of a deadly bombing of the MacDonald House building in Singapore that killed three people in 1965. Singapore says that the naming of the ship was a major setback in relations between the two countries. Singaporean Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen told parliament, Tuesday, that Singapore would not allow the corvette KRI Usman Harun to dock at ports and naval bases in Singapore. Also, Singaporean military would not take part in any military exercises with the warship. This is a major event because Singapore and Indonesia are set to become closer at the end of 2015 under the ASEAN implementation. What impact this incident has on this are yet to be seen.

According to IHS Janes, the KRI Usman Harun is a Bung Tomo-class corvette designation 359. It has two sister ships. The ships were originally built for the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) by BAE Systems in the UK but were later sold by Brunei to Indonesia in Janurary, 2013.
