Volkswagen (VW), the large German automobile manufacturer, plans to invest 1 billion euros to build a new manufacturing plant to produce fuel efficient cars in Thailand. The plan will build 1.4 litre gas engine cars and can produce up to 300,000 vehicles per year at full capacity. It is planned to start production in 2019. This isn't surprise news because VW applied to build this plant in April. VW wants to take advantage of tax breaks provided by the government. Ford adn General Motors have already agreed to expand their operations because of the tax breaks. VW produces its Passat, Polo and Jetta models in neighboring Malaysia in partnership with a Malaysian company. This VW plant is part of their goal to unseat Toyota as the global market leader.
