Smart Mobile Government (Smart mGovt) projects will be boosted by wearable devices. These will be the precursor to public sector Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystems. This is according to The Designing Tomorrow's Smart mGovernment Landscapes Enabled by the Growth of Wearables and the Internet of Things report by IDC Government Insights. IoT, Context, Instantaneous Reach, Privacy, Security, Technology Readiness and Wearables are the seven key ingredients for Smart mGovt adoption according to the report.Smart mGovt initiatives are driven by mission-critical and real-time solutions in functional domains such as public order and safety, transportation, healthcare, and social services. Government workers bringing their own technology devices, BYOD, into the government workplace present operational threats. These non-issued devices are part of what is known as 'Shadow IT'. The possible fix for this problem is CYOD, 'Choose Your Own Device', which will partially address users choice needs.
